ALL DVORAK CONCERT
SUNDAY, OCTOBER 28, 2018 - 3PM
We we open our season with Gypsy infused folk melodies in an all Dvorak concert. Returning to the PSO stage is virtuoso cellist Jason Love as he performs the towering Cello Concerto in B minor. Also on this Bohemian program is Dvorak’s beloved Symphony No. 8 in G major.
The Nutcracker...Ellington Style!
BOTH TCHAIKOVSKY and ELLINGTON NUTCRACKER SUITES

Everybody loves The Nutcracker...this Holiday concert the PSO not only presents Tchaikovsky’s timeless classic, but we will also perform The Nutcracker...Duke Ellington style! Come hear how one of America’s signature jazz composers puts his own twist on this masterpiece! Also on the program is a performance of Vivaldi’s Concerto for Two Cellos, featuring PSO Principal and Associate Principals James Forry and Devyn Wilcox. Of course this concert would not be complete without Leroy Anderson’s Sleigh Ride!

The beauty and splendor of the Grand Canyon is the backdrop to our annual Young People’s Concert, as our Student Art Contest and concert slideshow theme. Plus it’s the 20th anniversary of our Young Artists’ Competition, when three gifted young instrumentalists perform alongside the PSO to compete for scholarship prizes!

The New World
For our Season Finale performance we present the seminal work depicting the American landscape, Dvorak’s Symphony No. 9, From The New World. Europe’s most Bohemian composer gave the world this musical gift following his visit to the U.S., and today it still resonates. We are also pleased to feature PSO Concertmaster H. Lee Brewster in a performance of the monumental Concerto for Violin by American composer Samuel Barber. Don’t miss this grand celebration of our land known as America!
