The Piedmont Symphony Orchestra has launched an Educational/Outreach program designed for Middle and High School students enrolled in Public or Private music programs in Fauquier County, VA. The PSO Music Mentors residency program aims to directly support the music teachers and programs of the county, by offering hands-on visiting residencies to their programs. The residency aspect of this program sets it apart from similar programs offering a single visit/clinic. The PSO Clinicians build positive mentoring relationships with students, and encourage their progress along the way.

As a part of its Educational mission, the PSO will offer these comprehensive residencies at no cost to the Host School Music Programs. Participating students will be eligible to audition for the PSO Mentoring Pathways, which gives selected students the unique opportunity to rehearse and perform in one of the PSO’s season concerts. Our team of Clinicians brings several years of professional experience in this exact format, as well as their positive and constructive input for a positive and rewarding experience. Our clinicians also perform a wealth of demonstration during each visit, so musical concepts are reinforced at every level. Elements such as posture, bowing, fingerings, positioning, phrasing and interpretation are but a few addressed by our workshops; all are tailored to the needs of each individual school music program through discussion with the teacher prior to the clinics. The PSO Music Mentors program is specifically designed to support the Virginia Standards of Learning for Fine Arts.
