| ATTENTION
MUSIC TEACHERS: |
The
Piedmont Symphony
Orchestra is pleased
to invite select
high school-aged
band and orchestra
musicians to perform
along side the orchestra
at our annual Young
People's Concert
on Sunday, February
19th, 2012. Selected
students will have
the unique opportunity
to share the stage
of the Highland
Center for the Arts
with their professional
counterparts. |
Be
Part of a Full
Symphony Orchestra
|
| This
new program brings
together the Piedmont
Symphony Orchestra
and members of our
local high school
music programs,
homeschools, and
area youth orchestras.
It is designed to
increase access
to the Symphony's
programs and performances
for a broader community.
This program builds
relationships in
a manner that develops
new audiences for
the performing arts
and enhances the
fundamental music
education programs
of the the greater
Piedmont region. |
| The
Performance |
This
concert features
the annual PSO Young
Artists Competition,
in which three young
instrumentalists
compete for scholarship
prizes, and our
our annual PSO Student
Art Contest for
elementary school
students. A family-friendly
and true multimedia
experience, the
concert projects
art contest entries
on a large screen
above the orchestra
during the performance.
The result is a
spectacular concert
featuring the 55+
piece orchestra;
it is a tremendously
rewarding experience
for the Symphony
musicians, the students
and the audience! |
| The
Selection Process |
Students
will be selected
based on the recommendation
of their school
music teacher or
private music instructor.
Selected musicians
rehearse a major
symphonic program,
and perform it for
the public, sitting
side-by-side with
their professional
counterparts in
the Symphony. Both
the preparation
and performance
by the full ensemble
take place under
the direction of
the Symphony's music
director Glenn Quader. |
