Meet Paul Kim
PSO Assistant Conductor
 
Paul S. Kim is a conductor, composer, and violinist with a passion for connecting musicians and audiences
through a mutual love of music. Cherishing both classical artistry and popular accessibility, Paul strives to incorporate the best of both into his music making. Since 2008, Paul has been enjoying serving as Assistant Conductor of the Piedmont Symphony Orchestra, conducting on numerous occasions throughout each season.
The composer of over twenty original works, Paul has had compositions performed at the Brevard Music Center, National Orchestral Institute, and other venues. His arrangements of Radiohead songs for string quintet SYBARITE5 have received performances at Lincoln Center, Library of Congress, and Aspen Music Festival; one such cover, “15 Step,” helped earn the group a #11 ranking on Billboard’s Top Classical Crossover Albums chart. As a violinist, Paul serves as Principal Second Violinist of the Piedmont Symphony Orchestra. He is also a member of the Fairfax and Roanoke Symphony Orchestras.
Paul is currently pursuing a D.M.A. in Orchestral Conducting at Shenandoah Conservatory. Previously he earned an M.M. in Orchestral Conducting at the University of Maryland as well as an M.A. in Music and a B.S. in Chemistry at the University of Virginia. He also formerly served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve.
